Smart zone
An informal label used here for focused working context; it is not a model feature or a guaranteed reliability zone.
Illustrative conversation
- The context window is only half full. Are we still in the smart zone?
- Maybe. Judge by focus and task performance, not a percentage; noisy or conflicting context can cause problems early.
Definition
Smart zone is this glossary's practical label for the part of a working session where instructions, evidence, and recent decisions remain focused enough for reliable progress; it is not a formal model limit. There is no fixed token count for leaving the zone. Warning signs include repeated mistakes, forgotten constraints, and irrelevant tool use, which may call for pruning, compaction, or a clean handoff.
